Production Engineer / NPI / Manufacturing Engineer


  • 6 months contract in Fareham, Hampshire
  • Umbrella Pay Rate is £45 per hour
  • PAYE Pay rate is £33.70 per hour
  • Candidates require previous experience of Small Intricate Assembly manufacturing processes
  • NPI including working from drawings to get the new products into production
  • Require Electrical and Mechanical knowledge, and have a basic understanding in electrical testing
  • Has previously played an active role in the front-end design process, to ensure the designers are suitably informed to make design decisions that support the ability to procure materials & manufacture a product in the most efficient & sustainable way.
  • Possesses knowledge in various applications including but not limited to castings, machining processing, joining processes, metal cutting & tool design, metrology, machine tools, machining systems, automation, jigs and fixtures, die and mould design, material science, design of automobile / aerospace parts, and machine designing and manufacturing.


  • Identify manufacturing needs for new products in development
  • Design new systems and processes and provide facilities & methods to ensure the cost-effective integration of new products or for the improvement of existing ones into manufacturing operations
  • Ensure all product and system requirements are taken into account from the initial product conception to the finished result
  • Assist with shop floor layout and cell designs – both UK & offshore sites
  • Design fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
  • Generating production documentation such as assembly instructions
  • Reduce variability in manufacturing by providing standard work methods and work instructions
  • Ensure product and process quality meets specifications required
  • Oversee installation of machinery and equipment – as required
  • Maintain statistical and financial records
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning work flow, space requirements and equipment layout
  • Remove waste from the processes
  • Support and lead continuous improvement, problem solving and process improvement activities
  • Carry out PFMEAs, (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) process documentation and implement improvements
  • Poka Yoke (error proofing) where possible to prevent errors
  • Investigate production and process issues providing technical support and training
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
  • Train people within own work group as well as operatives in UK & Offshore
  • Travel for business (including driving) is an essential duty in this role.
