I am recruiting for a Procurement Manager (Purchasing Manager) to join a major project relocating an engineering manufacturing facility. The contract is expected to last at least 6 months
As Procurement (project) Manager your role will have two primary elements:
1. Responsibility for driving the development, documentation, and implementation of common procurement processes for the new site. This will involve:
a. Coordinating and aligning with existing sites to document current procurement processes and consolidate the existing processes across multiple sites into one best in class set of documented processes.
b. Supporting training and the roll-out of new processes across affected sites
c. Supporting other procurement coordination aspects of the site consolidation project as requested including supplier engagement and communication activities, supplier transition activities, and implementation and support of future state material flow processes with suppliers.
d. Providing procurement advice and support for the project leadership team as required.
2. Assisting and guiding the procurement of goods and services in support of the newly constructed facility as construction timelines warrant. This will include:
a. Working with project leaders and Group procurement teams, engage in supplier search, quoting, and recommended supplier selection for products and services in support of newly constructed facility. Conduct negotiations with suppliers to agree purchase price, lead time and delivery arrangements.
b. Ensuring that supply problems and delays are communicated to relevant team members taking responsibility for managing the resolution supply issues.
c. Ensuring that orders are placed, administered and expedited taking into consideration delivery requirements and quality and inventory impacts.
d. Analyzing unacceptable conditions and negotiating conditions covering delays, failure to perform, defects, terms of payment, etc.
e. Monitoring and managing purchase expenditures in line with allocated budgets, reporting any trends that may impact on overall costs.
f. Liaising with other team members to ensure that suppliers are provided with the correct product and service requirements.
g. Maintaining and monitoring measures of performance supporting required communication and report outs.
h. Working closely with the Group procurement team to leverage existing agreements where possible.
i. Providing strong support for Project related indirect procurement activities aligned with wider Group category strategies.
j. Initiating, leading, and executing various indirect procurement tenders and agreements as required.
k. Delivering direct benefits to the project through best practice procurement.
This is a highly visible role and as such requires a high calibre individual to be successful. The successful candidate will most likely have:
10+ years of relevant purchasing experience in an aerospace (or similar engineering/manufacturing) environment including at least 5 years at a strategic level
Strong SAP procurement experience
Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience
Established comfort in dealing with complex organizational and procurement topics
Proven experience in supply chain organizational and process consolidation
Facility consolidation and greenfield start-up experience helpful
Exceptional communication skills with an established comfort level communicating and presenting to all levels within an organization
Excellent facilitation and project management skills to lead multi-disciplined teams and interactions, drive consensus, and coordinate implementation of projects in a timely and effective manner
Ideal candidate must be able to work to a schedule and meet clearly defined dead line requirements.
Strong ability to coordinate, align, design and develop, document, and train best in class procurement processes
Robust comfort level with procurement activities in support of new facility start-up
Strong SAP, Microsoft Office, and spreadsheet analysis skills
Sound critical thinking and analysis skills
Established comfort in dealing with complex negotiations, legal issues, and large contracts
Experience within the aerospace industry a plus
