Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer required for a 4 months contract near High Wycombe to be responsible for the manufacturing, assembly and test of electronics communications equipment.


·Participate in the Design Review Process, to ensure that designs are optimised, wherever possible for manufacture, assembly, test and supportability.
·Plan and co-ordinate New Product Introductions
·Develop the manufacturing methods, processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, quality control and safety standards to efficiently deliver manufactured items, to time and cost targets set.
·Support the development of the supply chain strategy for projects, to drive early engagement with the supply chain for new designs and to deal effectively with supplier technical queries.
·Drive process improvements to ensure the most efficient, cost effective working methods are employed by implementing LEAN tools and techniques (eg 8D, 5S and Process Mapping).
·Critique and troubleshoot existing designs, providing feedback to project teams and engineering, specifically where inefficiencies in the manufacturing process are detected.
·Responsible for the ESD compliance of production and test areas.

·Analyse and plan work force utilisation, space requirements, workflow, designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
·To plan and co-ordinate production tooling, test and capital equipment to ensure availability of equipment when required.
·Ensure preventative maintenance is carried out.
·Also to ensure Health and Safety risks are considered.
·Develop Manufacturing Plans on allocated projects, detailing: area layout, process maps, test equipment requirements, cycle-times, resourcing, capital equipment, and tooling, handling equipment, operator training and timescales.
·Create Assembly Instructions and Work Instructions to ensure uniform, repeatable practices are followed by production.
·Create Routing information on the company ERP system; detailing process steps and standard times.
·Create accurate estimates for manufacturing times (including assembly, wiring, testing and inspection) for proposed new systems, to be submitted as part of the bid activity.
·Conduct Manufacturing Engineering tasks as required to support manufacture both in-house and sub-contract, tracing faults to root cause and instigating preventative actions to prevent re-occurrence.
·Support Production in the resolution of non-conformances, ensuring production experiences minimum disruption.
·Attend daily Production Stand up Meetings.
·Undertake trend analysis of the root cause of production non-conformance and follow up by implementing actions to prevent re-occurrence.
·Undertake inspection tasks when demand requires.
·Undertake continuous improvement projects.
·Defining manufacturing material handling processes and equipment on assigned projects.
·Ensure availability to the shop floor of drawings, specifications and manufacturing instructions, to the correct issue, before kits of parts are made available.
·Liaise with suppliers on manufacturing related issues.
·Implement the requirements of EN/ISO61340 (ESD).
·Conduct Process FMEAs and 8D Projects, ensuring mitigation actions are completed.
·Create Control Plans with the QA Department and Inspectors, for the projects allocated to him/her, detailing critical features and process inspection points.
