*The durability analysis engineer will be responsible for participating in the product engineering design team providing specialist stress analysis information to the team and making design recommendations. Working alongside CFD, emissions and thermal modelling specialists and the CAD team, responsibilities will include conversion of CAD data for use in FEA packages, modelling thermal, modal, mechanical and fatigue behaviour of product designs and presenting results to the team, manufacturing process engineers, and customers.
*Part of a team responsible for development of new commercial vehicle emissions control products.
*Key design responsibility for durability of products intended for production vehicles.
*Responsible for implementing analysis work which reduces the cost of susequent testing.
*Undertake structural analysis of new product designs as required, using FEA techniques and classical analysis methods.
*Perform analysis to predict product life and make the necessary design changes and recommendations to ensure the product achieves its design life, while subject to prescribed design and manufacturing limitations.
*Produce reports and make recommendations on all matters concerning the products’ suitability for purpose and design for manufacture.
*Discuss design improvement with the responsible Project Manager and make recommendations. Some direct interaction with the customer may also be required, which may involve travelling to customer sites anywhere in the world.
*Develop new analysis methodologies and techniques using mathematical models and engineering innovation as appropriate to improve the department’s effectiveness and the company’s profitability.

*Degree qualified in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
*At least three years experience in a stress analysis, or in a mathematical modelling environment, using Finite Element Analysis techniques.
*Working knowledge of Patran or HyperMesh FE pre-processing software.
*Linear and Non-linear analysis experience using at least one Finite Element Solver, ideally Abaqus, but other systems such as Ansys, Lusas and Nastran would be acceptable.
*Some user experience of UNIX, or LINUX based operating systems, but must be fully conversant with the Microsoft Windows environment, in particular use of Microsoft Office programmes.
*Some experience of modern fatigue life prediction techniques employing FE analysis methods.
*Some experience working in a test environment would be advantageous, but as a minimum, a basic working knowledge of test techniques is essential.
*Experience in any of the following would be a distinct advantage:
*Non-linear analysis involving material plasticity, large displacement, or contact phenomena.
*Sheet steel manufacturing and joining
*Analysis of materials at elevated temperatures
*Properties of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels
*FE-safe or nCode fatigue life prediction software
*Software development applied to data exchange and numerical analysis
*Themal fluid analysis techniques
