Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for 15 - 20 people, either CNC machinists (millers and turners) focussing on insuring that production and quality targets are met.
Essential to the role is the ability to demonstrate the drive needed to bring about changes and improvements in processes, be it through man management or by being process driven. You will need to be able demonstrate where you personally have made a difference in your current role
The role is offered on a permanent basis with a salary ranging from £30 - £35K depending on what you can bring to the role. Please note that you may be asked to work on a shift, most likely alternating double-days. For this you will be paid a shift premium of £5K
Key to the role is previous experience of managing a team of production operatives while also working closely with planning, production management, quality and inspection. You will also have a key role in employee relations, including sickness, grievances, disciplinary, but also training and development.
The role would be most suited to someone who has similar leadership experience who has a background in machining.
You will need to demonstrate an ability to manage strong characters in a diplomatic way.
Develop and maintain capacity planning models and scheduling techniques to maximise effective use of resource, ensuring production targets are met.
Highlight capacity constraints within the cell and work with production manager to resolve such matters.
Develop and maintain continuous improvement activities within the respective cell and also highlight external opportunities to the cell which benefit the business.
Develop and maintain cell systems/routines that ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality requirements and conduct timely audits to ensure the cell adheres to the aforementioned systems in all respects.
Develop and maintain skills matrix and act accordingly to update competencies or skills, dependent upon customer and company demands, assist in identifying training needs and skill shortages.
Generation of appropriate monthly reports and also communication techniques within the cell. Manage and plan cell around TPM/5S/Team meetings etc.
Liaise with other Team Leaders, Production Managers and the Site Operations Manager, ensuring that required activities in all areas are managed in line with company expectations.
You will also be required to arrive and depart 30 minutes before and after normal start and finish times where applicable, to liaise shift handover with previous/incoming shift Team Leader.
Deputise in production managers' absence and provide supervisory coverage of all production area in any circumstance of absence.
